It’s not a secret that everyone, including myself, enjoy trying out food or dishes that are new to us. That’s why when a new restaurant opened, that offers a fusion of European and Asian dishes, I did not hesitate and was quick to try it out.
Last June 1, I was invited by John Caparros, along with my friends, to the Akrotiri’s VIP Blogger’s Night at Akrotiri Modern Eurasian Cuisine. We got to try out the restaurants unique dishes. But before we dig in to it, let me give you a quick look at the restaurant’s origin.
Mrs Alexandra Nicole Karatza and her husband Dimitris Karatzas always finds themselves in different parts of the world. She also has a knack for culinary, and that allowed her to infuse her travel experiences to her cooking.
Akrotiri is the amalgamation or fusion of coastal food cultures from all over the world. They combined not two, but three themes, Malay, Oriental and European influences, which justifies the meaning of Ακρωτήρι, the cape of good hope or peninsula, an area surrounded om three sides by water but have a strong connection to the land.
One of the owners, Mr. Dimitri Karatzas, along with the General Manager, David Jones, did not just provide us with an evening of gastronomic experience, they also shared some thoughts regarding the restaurants concepts and dishes.

According to Akrotiri’s General Manager, David Jones, “We (Akrotiri) wanted to bring our knowledge to the Philippines and use all the incredible food that’s in the East and blended it with the West.”
We had the chance to experience almost everything that is on their menu, from their mezze or appetizers to their desserts.
If you’re on diet or veggies and salads are your thing, they have a variety of healthy salads, from Quinoa to Organic Salad, that have the freshest ingredients. Their Quiona Salad is composed of cucumber, corn, ginger, cabbage, carrot, chives and lemon dressing.
While Akrotiri’s Organic Salad is a mixture of vegetables, sunflower seeds, a variety of greens topped with citrus dressing.
They also offer soups originating from Europe, such as the Eurasian Sour Soup

and Souvlaki Skewers, and Asian-inspired soups like the Thai Prawn Tom Yum and Curry Soup. Just looking at that prawn is enough to make your mouth water.

Additional to their menu, are the mezze, also known as the appetizers. Akrotiri presented their Hokkaido Smoked Salmon Sandwich with spinach, yogurt, honey, and dill and their Wagyu Burger with Cheese, Caramelized Onions, and Rustic Fries that had was oozing with sheer satisfaction and delight. We were also served, Wagyu Corned Beef with turmeric mashed potatoes, fried kale, and aioli wasabi and Sisig Tacos with pork belly, peppers, lettuce, and red cabbage. If you are looking for an appetizer that is savory and that will fill you in right away, you can opt for their Grilled Prawns in Tamarind Dressing and Greens and Chicken Satay Skewers with rice, curry sauce, and grilled vegetables. These appetizers will surely have you wanting for more of their dishes.
Their main dish has a diversity of red meat, white meat and seafoods, that are not just appealing to the sight but also a pleasure to the taste buds that will definitely send shivers down your spine.

Some of their red and white meat dishes that we had are Wagyu Skirt Steak with Spicy Chili Jam, Roasted Vegetables and Paprika Aioli, Beef Shank Dumpling in red turmeric sauce and Rustic Chicken Teriyaki with crispy salad, oven potatoes and curry mayo. We also had seafood dishes that are incomparable to the normal seafood dishes that we had in the past, the Seafood Tagliatelle with Clams, Mussels, Prawns, Squid, and Tomatoes, which is a great example of seafood haven. Other seafood dishes we had are, Grilled Squid stuffed with feta cheese and risotto and Tuna Tataki with Indian crust, lemon soya dressing, wasabi aioli, and baby vegetables.
Chocolate Garden Mosaiko |
Green Tea Tiramisu |
Of course, we cannot forget about their dessert that left us craving for just one more bite. I recommend that you choose from their Chocolate Garden Mosaiko or a Green Tea Tiramisu. All I can say is that we were left mystified by the balance of sweetness that their desserts have given us.
It’s not over until you experience the wide variety of boozed offered by Akrotiri. They feature drinks and cocktails that have a unique blend of flavors from different parts of the globe. Mojito, Manhattan, Espresso Martini and Tequila sunrise are among those cocktail drinks. They also serve traditional British Isles with Bloody Mary and Pimms & Lemonade. They also have a selection of Gin with diverse blends, such as,Portobello Road Gin with summer fruits, Rose Gin with dried chili and Gin Mare with mango & pepper.
