A few weeks ago, I had a lovely afternoon with fellow mommy bloggers for the Lotte Xylitol event.
Tooth decay is a problem for many children including mine. What are the causes of tooth decay? how can it be prevented? When it's safe to give your child chewing gum and the best type to start with? These are just some of questions that I wanted to know.
Lucky for us, Lotte Xylitol brought in Mommy Dentist, Dr. Fina Lopez, DMD. She talked about dental care tips and proper oral hygiene.
According to Dr. Fina Lopez:
♥ 9 out of 10 children in the Philippines suffer from tooth decay and that we ranked #2 in the world among countries with the highest percentage of caries among school children.
♥ Tooth Decay is contagious and it can transmit to your child through blowing your child's hot food, kissing your child and sharing utensils with your child. Avoid sharing utensils with them or tasting food before serving it to them and instruct yaya to do the same, kiss on the cheek instead of the lips.
♥ Bacteria or Tooth decay doesn't happened overnight. But if you allow plaque to build up on teeth by not brushing and flossing properly over many years, the bacteria and acids that they produce will break down the tooth enamel. This progressive decay can cause symptoms including pain and swelling, and may result in tooth loss in extreme cases.
The first stage of tooth decay involves the appearance of yellowish spots or chalky white areas on the surface of tooth.
♥ Your healthy smile depends on simple COMPLETE DENTAL HABITS
☺ Eating a well-balanced diet
☺ Brushing at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
♦ Change your toothbrush every 3 months.
☺ Flossing after brushing for 2 years old and above
☺ Visiting the dentist regularly
☺ For children 6 yrs old and above, especially teenagers, Chewing Xylitol dental health gum daily 4-10 grams of xylitol/day. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry best recommend to chew 1 g for 5 minutes after eating.
will rally against toothdecay, help fight cavities and spread healthy smiles :)
It was a really enlightening afternoon. I'm so glad I went. I was able to take home Lotte Xylitol Gum gift pack, a dental healthy sugar-free gum that effectively helps prevent tooth decay. It's highly recommended by Dr. Fina Lopez. It comes in four yummy and exciting flavors: Fresh Mint, Lime Mint, Blueberry Mint and Strawberry.
Thank you so much Lotte Xylitol Gum Philippines and Mommy Ginger Arboleda of Manila Workshops. ♥

I love xylitol. Aside from being a gum, it helps our teeth become stronger. I recommend this to be a part of daily routine
ReplyDeletemy daughter loves gum so much, ako di masyado, one time kc nasobrahan ko yata ang pagchew, as in nanakit talaga ang panga ko, from then on parang sinumpa ko ang gum, for twelve years hindi ko sya tinikman, just recently lng uli ako ngtry....chewing gum does'nt only makes our teeth healthy, it's one way of exercising our jaw, and if i am not mistaken, it is being recommended for people who's having a Bell's Palsy....still convincing myself if i would join the contest...
ReplyDeleteIm the kind of girl that always chew bubble gums after I eat my lunch. Because its my way of having a fresh breath after I ate. But I noticed that I am having a tooth decay recently, siguro dahil na din sa sugar content. Good thing to know that xylitol is sugar-free and helps prevent tooth decay. Its really awesome and I will definitely buy and try it! just wow, I think it will be my best-friend buddy in keeping my breath fresh and gum healthy! yay! thanks for sharing Ms. Pretty!! :)
